RUMOR: Need for Speed 2022 Reportedly Titled 'NFS Unbound' and Features Car Meets, Reveal in Late July

New details have been revealed about the upcoming Need for Speed title slated for release by Criterion Games later this year, with EA supposedly gearing up for an official reveal of the new game in the second half of July.

Posting over on Exputer, known freelance writer and credible leaker Tom Henderson has detailed EA’s plans to reveal the next Need for Speed, Skate and FIFA titles throughout the month of July, as well as new details about key features and a rumoured title for Need for Speed 2022.

According to Henderson, the rumour of Need for Speed 2022 featuring a photorealistic art style with ‘anime elements’ - which we reported on when revealed by GiantBomb’s Jeff Grubb - is real, with one of his sources likening the character design to something akin to The Boondocks TV Series.

Henderson also revealed a big new feature of the next Need for Speed is “Meetups”, where players can meet up around the map and initiate races. The tracks around the map are described as ‘unique’, with one of Henderson’s sources saying the map has a large train running through it.

Finally, while he cannot fully confirm it, he believes the title of the new game will be called ‘Need for Speed: Unbound'.’ This is a title he has heard floating around, but can’t confirm if this is the official name or if its the codename for Need for Speed 2022.

The next Need for Speed title, currently in development by Criterion Games in addition with recently-revealed Codemasters Cheshire, has been confirmed to be launching later this year. Recent leaks and rumours have suggested Need for Speed 2022 will be coming to next gen platforms only, and will be set in a fictionalized Chicago with a photorealistic art style with ‘anime elements’.
