Need for Speed Unbound Details New Calendar Progression System and Side Bets

The latest Need for Speed Unbound content drop is here, this week focusing on the risk and reward gameplay loop with brand-new gameplay footage showcasing the new weekly qualifier progression system, side bets and intense cop chases in action.

You can check out the new gameplay for yourself down below running at 4K 60 FPS:

As you play through the single player campaign of Unbound, players will enter into The Grand, Lakeshore’s ultimate racing challenge, competing over the course of four in-game weeks against Rival Racers to earn bank in preparation for Saturday’s Weekly Qualifier.

During these in-game weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to make side bets (returning to the franchise again since NFS Payback) against Rival Racers in a chance to make extra money and maximize your winnings of an event. Events in Unbound require a buy in, so making a side bet will either sweeten or sour the prize pot depending on your place outcome…

The new Calendar system showcases the progression throughout the week, where players will start on a Sunday and need to work towards earning enough cash during the week to enter the Saturday qualifier. Heat level appears to be attached to you throughout the week and not reset once ending the day like in NFS Heat, which will most likely play a huge factor into how players tackle working towards the Qualifier.

Cops obviously play a big role in the risk and reward gameplay, with new ‘escape mechanics’ and places to lay low being introduced to earn bonus cash throughout your sessions.

Multiple new tiers of cops appear to be introduced in Unbound, with the teaser focusing on standard Dodge Chargers and Ford Raptor SWAT vehicles, here we get a better look of them in action alongside the Corvette C7 and Camaro ZL1 pursuit vehicles and helicopters

A glimpse of direct gameplay shows up to 7 cops can pursue you at one time, with icons above indicating how many cops of which type are chasing you. Oh and you can put rims that look like pizzas on your car. Game of the year.

Need for Speed Unbound launches on December 2nd, 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, or three days earlier on November 29th for the Palace Edition purchasers and EA Play subscribers.
