Just Cause 4 Accidentally Leaked By Steam
A new entry in the Just Cause series looks to be on the way, with a Steam advert leaking the existence of Just Cause 4 only several days before E3 is set to begin.
People logging into Steam earlier today have been greeted with a pre-order advert for Just Cause 4, featuring protagonist Rico Rodriguez with his series stable Grappling Hook overlooking a stormy jungle environment.
Several weeks ago, a Walmart CA listing leaked several new games ahead of E3, including titles which have since been revealed including RAGE 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and LEGO DC Villains. Just Cause 4 was also on this list, with other titles such as Gears of War 5, a new Splinter Cell and a new Forza Horizon game.
You can check out the pre-order advert below, with Kotaku also providing their findings:
Square Enix, who publish Just Cause, are holding their first E3 Press Conference this year, so the the official announcement of Just Cause 4 is all but confirmed to be revealed at their show, provided they don't reveal it ahead of time due to this leak.
As a fan of the Just Cause series, Just Cause 2 is one of my all-time favourite games however Just Cause 3 left a lot to be desired and was a huge disappointment. Just Cause 3's focus on Michael Bay-esque explosions and not on the exploration and experimentation of Just Cause 2 was its biggest shortcoming, plagued by terrible framerate issues making the game near unplayable.
Hopefully in the three years since Just Cause 3, the developers have learned their mistakes and are on track for making a much-improved sequel that fans of Just Cause 2 will love. We'll be sure to keep you updated as this story develops, with an official announcement expected at Square Enix's E3 Press Conference next week.
