Rumour: Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster Coming To PS4 This Year
After the huge success last year of Crash Bandicoot: The N-Sane Trilogy, it seems Activision are planning on giving the iconic Spyro The Dragon the same remade-from-the-ground-up treatment later this year, with an official announcement coming very soon, if a report from Kotaku is to be believed.
According to Kotaku, who have cited multiple sources associated with the remaster project, will feature the classic Insomniac Games developed PSOne titles - Spyro The Dragon, Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon - remade with new assets, lighting, animations, cinematics and a remastered soundtrack. It will also update the trilogies save functions to something more modern akin to the N Sane Trilogy, which updated the original games' password feature. Additionally, it sounds like cut content from the original Insomniac-made games will be making it's way into the remaster trilogy.
The Spyro Trilogy Remaster is said to be officially announced in March for PS4, with PS4 Pro support, and is expected to launch sometime in Q3 2018. One source told Kotaku that the trilogy may launch this September, as that would mark the 20th anniversary of the original Spyro The Dragon on PSOne.
The Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster is reportedly being developed by Vicarious Visions, the same developers who made the Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, and is said to be a one year timed exclusive to PlayStation - with the title set to launch on other platforms late 2019. In addition, the report also states that the N'Sane Trilogy is under a similar deal, and will launch on other platforms sometime after June 2018.
While we can't verify how true this story is, after the extreme popularity resurgence of Crash Bandicoot last year, it only makes sense for Activision to follow up with Spyro the Dragon - after having the poor purple dragon confined to the dreadful and declining Skylanders series for a decade. We will be sure to keep you updated next month when the supposed official announcement from Activision is made!
