Need for Speed Unbound Volume 6 Revealed, Adds Audi, Dedicated PvP, Ranks and More

With the reveal last week that Need for Speed Unbound will receive another year of support, Criterion Games have revealed the latest Volume coming to Need for Speed Unbound, featuring the return of Audi, a new dedicated PvP mode, player ranks and much, much more.

Here’s everything being introduced in Volume 6, which launches today on all platforms.

Dedicated PvP Mode

Volume 6 completely overhauls the PvP system and introduces a new, dedicated menu to access and matchmake with other players directly from the garage. No longer do you need to join a session and be limited by who’s in the session, players looking for their competitive fix can now matchmake with anyone from a variety of rotating playlists.

25 new PvP races have also been added in this Volume, which can be accessed from the dedicated mode and in free roam.

Weekly PvP Playlists

Starting with the launch of the new dedicated PvP mode is the introduction of weekly playlists, which will feature three rotating playlists and a Quick Race option for players to jump in.

One of the three playlists includes a Featured Playlist which offers Boosted XP, with Volume 6 introducing Audi-focused and ‘NFS Legends’ playlists to also jump into. There will also be Performance-focused playlists, with four new S+ Tier playlists also being introduced.

Rank System

Volume 6 introduces a traditional XP based rank system to Need for Speed Unbound, which can be progressed in both single player and multiplayer. Players will start at Rank 1 and can progress to Rank 200 in this volume, unlocking new Decals and Banner Frames as you hit a specific Rank Divisions, with the plan to add 200 additional ranks to progress through in future volumes.

In addition to having a new Rank symbol next to your name, Banner Titles are also being introduced with Volume 6, which will allow players to showcase their achievements for completing certain challenges or achieving certain rank divisions.

Return of Audi in Need for Speed

After being absent at the release of Unbound, both the Audi R8 Coupe (2019) and Audi S5 Sportback (2017) return from previous entries alongside the franchise debut of the Audi RS6 Avant (2020). Each of these three Audi’s are fully customizable with various bodykit options, but also boast unique engine audio and a new handling model along with them.

NFS Legends Content

With the aim of building the ultimate NFS experience in one place, Criterion are introducing ‘NFS Legends’ – a content categorization celebrating the 30-year history of Need for Speed and blends it with the future.

Volume 6 features the introduction of NFS Legends themed playlists and adding a new playlist each volume, starting with a playlist based around 1994’s ‘The Need for Speed’ which showcases the 1984 Ferrari Testarossa.

Additionally, a modern take on Darius’ iconic Audi R8 from NFS Carbon reimagined for the Audi R8 (2019) is also being introduced and can be unlocked through the new Premium SpeedPass.

Free and Premium Speed Pass

With a new Volume comes a new Speed Pass, however this time around a paid Premium Speed Pass is also being introduced for additional content as part of NFS Unbound’s live service, replacing the old DLC car pack system for something more streamlined and of more value.

For the free Speed Pass, you’ll be able to unlock the Audi R8 and S5 Sportback as well as bodykit customization options for the two, alongside XP Boosts for your Rank/Speed Pass, Banner Titles, Rival Racer character skins and more.
