Rumour: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remaster In Development
The next entry into the Need for Speed franchise is currently in development over at Criterion, with EA giving us a glimpse at the title during EA Play Live this week, though it seems that’s not the only Need for Speed being worked on.
According to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, Stellar Entertainment (the team behind Burnout Paradise Remastered) are currently working on a Need for Speed remaster. While Grubb is unsure which title specifically is getting the remastered treatment, he believes it may be 2010’s Hot Pursuit.
Based on his tweet reply, this Need for Speed remaster was meant to be revealed during the show but oddly wasn’t. Hours prior to EA Play Live, the official Need for Speed Twitter account tweeted the iconic Get Low by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, leading many to believe they were teasing an Underground 1 remaster.
While its worth taking this with a grain of salt, Grubb has made the rounds over the past few weeks, most recently revealing the correct date of PlayStation 5’s reveal event. Grubb had indicated that of a Skate revival and Apex Legends Switch port before EA Play, and has also stated a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster will be coming this year.
Considering this year marks the 10th anniversary of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and that Criterion are working on the franchise again, its very likely we could see a Hot Pursuit remaster this year. Stellar Entertainment also have experience with Criterion’s older engine having remastered Burnout Paradise.
