With DIRT 5 officially out now on all current and next gen platforms, Codemasters are looking to the future of the title and how they can support it going forward with community feedback and new content.

One thing that seems to be hot on their to-do list is the DualSense controller and improving its haptic feedback for the PlayStation 5 version.

While many seem to be impressed with the next-gen controller’s immersive haptic features on DIRT 5, Codemasters believe it could be better and as such, are planning to overhaul them entirely.

DIRT 5 Technical Director, David Springate spoke at length about the title during a GameOnDaily livestream, and discussed how the team at Codies Chesire plan to overhaul DIRT 5’s haptic feedback function on PS5:

“I've seen a lot of people say 'I want to pick up DIRT 5 on PS5 because of the haptics. It's really interesting to me because I've seen a lot of people I hang out with on various forums, and I hang out in the DIRT 5 Discord...I've seen a lot of people say they really like the PS5 haptics. We're not happy with it, so we're going to be revisiting our haptics, even though I've not seen anybody say I hate the haptics in DIRT 5, we are not happy with it so we're going to go back and redo it.”

Springate had praised the DualSense’s adaptive feedback features prior launch in a dev video discussing the PS5 version, however it seems the team believes there’s still room for improvement, which is good news for DIRT 5 PS5 players.

With the DualSense still in its infancy phase with what is capable with Sony’s adaptive trigger and haptic feedback technology, its reassuring to hear Codemasters want to improve this feature over time to better enhance the experience — especially seeing as racing games are perfect examples of this tech.

While I’ve yet to try DIRT 5 on PlayStation 5, I reviewed DIRT 5 on PlayStation 4 Pro earlier this month and came away impressed, believing it to be one of the best arcade racing experiences you can buy this generation. You can read more of my DIRT 5 review here.

DIRT 5 is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Stay tuned for all future DIRT related news and content, including our own first impressions of DIRT 5’s adaptive triggers and haptics.
